Reaching My Health Goals

Whether we want to lose weight, improve sleep, increase stamina, lower stress, or reverse a chronic illness, we want to improve our health and reach our health goals. Making those goals a reality is where we often stumble. Sometimes, we stumble because of a lack of knowledge, but most of the time, it’s a lack of motivation, or poor planning and implementation.

According to research by the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD) (1), the odds of a person performing an action increase dramatically when they have a specific accountability appointment. The research revealed the probability percentage of completing a goal if:

  • 10% – You have an actual idea or goal.
  • 25% – You consciously decide you will do it.
  • 40% – You decide when you will do it.
  • 50% – You plan how you will do it.
  • 65% – You commit to someone you will do it.
  • 95% – You have a specific accountability appointment with a person you’ve committed to.

Did you catch that?! You have a 95% probability of completing a goal when you have a specific accountability appointment with a person you’ve committed to! Accountability helps us reach our goals because we:

  • Receive encouragement and motivation.
  • Are pushed to go further and are held accountable for our commitments.
  • Share our struggles and celebrate our successes with someone who cares.

If you are looking to reach some of those elusive health goals, maybe it’s time to find an accountability partner or health coach who can start to meet with you on a weekly basis. Our providers at Primary Healthcare Centers would be glad to help you develop and reach your health goals.

May you enjoy abundant health,
Rick Christman, Chief Executive Officer
